International Jury
Request for Clarification : Race 3
Dear International Jury,
Team Mozambique respectfully requests clarification regarding the penalty received during Race 3.
Prior to racing on 3 June, during the Skippers' Meeting, Team Mozambique specifically raised a question regarding the spinnaker hoist procedure between Mark 1 and Mark 1a. The purpose of the question was to ensure that all teams clearly understood the correct interpretation and application of the procedure before racing and to avoid any misunderstanding during competition.
The question was subsequently published on the Official Notice Board:
> "Are we allowed to set a spinnaker between Mark 1 and Mark 1a?"
The published answer referred competitors to the applicable rule.
As Team Mozambique had proactively requested clarification before racing, and as the manoeuvre executed during Race 3 was consistent with the team's understanding following the briefing and previous training sessions, we would appreciate clarification on the following points:
1. What specific action was considered to constitute the infringement?
2. Which rule or provision was considered to have been breached?
3. During the race, Team Mozambique understood that the communication from the Jury referred to the pole/bowsprit. However, subsequent references have mentioned the kite/spinnaker. Could the Jury please clarify which specific action formed the basis of the penalty?
The purpose of this request is solely to better understand the interpretation and application of the procedure and to ensure a common understanding for future races.
Thank you for your time and clarification.
Kind regards,
Bartolomeu Ernesto, Helm
