we are FRA but cannot change the country of the boat online
Today we have been black flagged at the first upwind mark by the jury for an OCS and a green and white chequered flag has been displayed at the start.
Let us explain why this flag interpretation must be «Clear start »
- In the Racing Rules, the preparatory signal (P today) shows that the racing is on and the boats are under the sailing rules i.e. the line is open. The removal of the class flag indicates the starting signal
- Also in the Racing rules all start signals are Visual signals thus there cannot be two Visual signals with the same interpretation.
- So Green flag cannot means « line is open » nor « starting signals »
- Or in the Sailing Instruction green flag = « valid start » so « valid start » cannot be « line is open » nor « starting signal »
- Thus « Valid start » must be intereprated as a start which is a clear start for the race
- We can also re Think by definition a « non valid start » : A non valid start is a start where there is a procedural defect but there is AP flag or N flag for that (but there cannot be two flags that have the same signification so green flag cannot be a valid procedure) or can be a start where the line stays active i.e. that one or more boats crossed the line early and are recall so it cannot be a valid start so there cannot be a X flag after the green and white flag
We can conclude here that during the race 3 of the fleet 4 the Sailing instruction and the Sailing Racing Rules weren’t respected. It is a procedural defect thus the race cannot be used and must be canceled, re sailed or at least, (because we have been aggrieved with the black flag) we can be reranked farily (e.g. position at upwind mark or an average of our points)
This black flag induced huge consequences for the rest of the qualification series.
